The Founder's Story

Ryan J. Schenk — From Ad-Seg to Purpose

Ryan J. Schenk was sentenced to 32 years in a Colorado prison for a series of extremely violent offenses — including 7 counts of attempted first-degree murder of a police officer. Immediately upon His incarceration He was sent to ad-seg (Solitary Confinement) for the second time in His life and ultimately served 5 and 1/2 years in one of the most restrictive environments that is known to exist.

Then someone sent him a Bible — with his name written on the cover. Seven days later, Ryan offered his life to Christ. For the first time in his life, he truly repented. Not the kind of repentance that comes from consequence, but the kind that comes from encountering something real.

The Lord blessed Ryan with a prophetic dream — a vision of what his life was actually meant to be. The first four years of his walk as a Christian were brutal. Ryan would be tested and tempted at every turn often failing at each. But God was faithful to the vision He gave, and slowly, powerfully, it began to unfold.

For 8 years, Ryan became a staple in the Peer-Led Movement throughout the Colorado Department of Corrections. He poured himself into orienting men entering the system and preparing those who were preparing to leave it and he made sure that every person walking through those doors received what he had received — a Bible with their name on it. This mission being all the more powerful as we realize that the place meant to punish Ryan would ultimately be the ground where seeds were sown leading him to redemption.

Alongside those Bibles, Ryan and other Rebels Ministry leaders (often Gang Members) began leading nightly prayer circles that became something far greater than anyone anticipated. They called themselves"The Committed" — and the name fit. Night after night, men gathered in faith-based peer support that did what the system said couldn't be done: it built genuine community inside the walls. Brotherhood that transcended race. Unity that crossed gang lines. Men who had every reason to distrust each other choosing instead to show up, pray together, and hold each other accountable.

14,000 Bibles later — Ryan walked out the other side of the fence.

Now on the outside, Ryan's mission is singular: come alongside every person leaving the CDOC with the resources, the support, and the community they need to make it. His goal is to remove every excuse from the table — so that anyone willing to do the work can find themselves living a life they never thought was possible for someone like them.

That's not a program. That's a calling.
